The New York Times carries the official word this morning and ABC’s TheNote gets the spin lines laid out. But a little piece of email that came over the transom yesterday was enough notice that the Bush campaign was started to gear up against the Democrats.
They’re rolling out the twins. Things are getting serious.
“***Media Advisory***,” says the mail. “Barbara and Jenna Bush to Host Online Chat on GeorgeWBush.com.”
That’s right. Chat with the girls. On-line! About their “involvement in re-electing their Dad and the importance of young voters to this year’s Presidential election.” Interesting, no? There’s been a lot of talk about registering young women, the assumption being that they’re going to be Democrats. But, well, people can change their minds, now can’t they? Registration drives are fine but it’s not a particularly good idea to assume that youth and liberalism go hand in hand -- see what TheNote has to say about "machine" and how it gives Bush an advantage. Not that the twins are uh,are poorly mannered or anything (although I have to say I can see Jenna's point on the photographers).
And no, smarty pants, no word on whether (or how many) libations will be served for the on-line chat, which is uh, scheduled for the 5:30-6:30 cocktail hour.
