Too friendly to be a classic "mash-up", too big to be a widget, MAPLight.org - today's HotSpot - is nevertheless a pretty cool use of this here Internet thing.

The site, which went public last week, lets you search by legislator, by topic, by legislation to see who voted, how they voted and what kind of campaign contributions they accepted. And, well, it might just confirm your worst suspicions about the California legislature.

Think Democrats are beholden to the teacher's unions and that relationship shows up in their voting records? Think business interests are in tight with Republicans? MAPlight's got some facts to support - or shoot down - your hypothesis.
