Ever wondered how a building, park, home, railroad, school, church or museum got to be a "historic" landmark?
Well, it's usually done by committee. And you know how that goes. But the Internet changes everything, even committees.
In the latest wrinkle, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and a credit card company (the one that encourages travel) have sponsored a site asking fans of the San Francisco Bay area to vote on designations for historic sites.
This is a bit of a gimmick - it's really an ad for the credit card company and a boost for the Trust (which is NOT a government entity). But it's a beautifully done site and, well, it's just another way for us to share one thing we love about our hometown - it's gorgeous here - with you as today's HotSpot.
