You read the book now see...er, no, not the movie.

No, see the place that inspired the author. Novel Destinations: Literary Landmarks from Jane Austen's Bath to Ernest Hemingway's Key West is a long title but, well you get the idea.

It's the work of two writers who love to travel and read, often at the same time. And, like most books featured here, it's authors have a website, too, that expands on the travel-lit theme. It's today's early summer HotSpot.

For the next month, San Francisco will be the site of - brace yourself - a message-based arts project.

Ten artists from around the world have been invited by University of San Francisco professor Richard Kamler to "see peace and tell him what it looks like." The results went on display yesterday, Memorial Day, and will be up until June 22.

Of course, you don't need to be here in San Francisco to see the results or read the artists' descriptions of their work. There's a website. And it's today's HotSpot.

It is or it isn't: Global Warming that is. Or climate change. Pick your term. Pick your side.

Still confused? There's hope. Climate Debate Daily has the latest - from both sides of the debate - here. News stories, discussion, policy statements and debate from around the world. It is after all, a global debate.

And it's today's, er, Hotspot.

Photographer and editor Eric Etheridge lives in New York but like many of his fellow southerners, he can't quite shake free of the region, its history and its place in American culture.

He has produced a haunting book of photographs of the young men and women arrested in during the summer of 1961 for, among other things, helping southern blacks register to vote. Breach of Peace: Portraits of the 1961 Mississippi Freedom Riders is a photographic documentary and oral history. It's today's HotSpot.

And, of course, it has a website.

Things are loosening up in Cuba. Cellphones aren't forbidden and with Fidel Castro's waning health and power ceded to his brother Raul, there's lots of reason to hope for serious change.

To help things along, Castro critic and Cuban affairs blogger Val Prieto is urging support for this petition to free Cuba's political prisoners. "Most of these men and women in Cuban prisons were arrested and incarcerated for what we all take for granted: sharing our thoughts and opinions," Preito writers.

Indeed.

Being based in San Francisco, it's hard for Spot-on to escape the not-so-breaking news that this the 40th anniversary of 1968: Chicago, Tet Offensive, Paris, RFK and MLK shot, riots and mayhem. Yes, we know, this means Hippies are now officially old. But don't tell them, okay? It harshes out their party mellow.

In the spirit of that year, we bring you a little bit of fun: A site commemorating the 50th birthday of the Peace Symbol.

There's a book tie-in, of course. But it's still, groovy, no?
